Shutter Island

So the other day, me and Captain Matthew Edwards, attended a screening of Shutter Island at the cinema. And it was jolly well good too! And I have to say it... Martin Scorsese's done it again!

Now at this point I have to warn you, that reading the following, will spoil the plot of the film for you, if you haven't already seen it...

All in all the cinematography, to me, is what really stands out in the film. It manages to combine the visual styles of two vastly different kinds of thrillers.

1. An intense psychological horror movie,

2. '50s detective film.

I loved the way that we subtly flipped from the early scenes of Teddy pursuing an investigation that actually has some level of logical sense to it to a hallucinatory world that exists only in his mind.

The way they executed that was truely brilliant!

Scorsese's use of color is amazingly spot-on too; Lush, bright colors in Teddy's fantasies, cold dull grays and greens when he's facing the truth. It wonderfully emphasizes how much comfort he finds in the made-up world of "Teddy" than the real life of Andrew.&nbsp;<br style="-webkit-user-select: text; ">

The strongest element of this film though is&nbsp;the nature of madness and insanity that it portrays. For the sane, it is impossible to
comprehend "insanity". And for the insane it is also impossible to comprehend "insanity"... The patients are in a NO WIN situation... And that's PERFECT from the doctors point of view!&nbsp;

Overall, I really enjoyed it. It did take me until now to realise that though... It's one of those films you need to seriously think about after you've seen it...

So have you seen it? Do you agree with me? Let me know your thoughts...

(NOTE TO CAPTAIN CHRISTIAN: Try and say this is a girly post then!)

Love you all!&nbsp;
